Team Handbook

The Southall Swim Team is a member of the non-profit corporation Tarheel Swim Association (TSA), a league of local swim teams whose primary purpose is to further interest in competitive swimming. We are in Division 9 of the Northern League. Visit www.tsa.swimtopia.com for more information about TSA. Questions not covered below should be sent to [email protected] .

Registration

Pool membership or Southall resident is a requirement. It’s quick, easy, and payments can be done via PayPal. If you prefer to pay by check, you still need to register online and choose “Check” as the form of payment. Checks can be brought to the first practice.

Team Suits

The name of the swimsuit is Sporti Solid Piped Thin Strap (girls) and Sporti Piped Splice Swim Jammer (boys) in black/royal and are available through swimoutlet.com. If your size is not available, feel free to choose a similar suit of any brand.

Volunteers

Each swim meet requires at least 30 parent volunteers.  Parents are required to sign up for volunteer slots over the course of the swim team season. Volunteer sign up is done online when you register your swimmer(s). Home meet cleanup will be done by all swim team families this year. Along with the four times parents will volunteer during swim meets, we are asking that if your child’s last name begins with: A-I you help clean up after the 1st home meet (6/13) J-R you help clean up after the 2nd home meet (7/5) S-Z you help clean up after the 3rd home meet (7/18).

Meets

The events at the meet are run by age group in the following order: Medley Relay, Freestyle, Backstroke, Breaststroke, Butterfly, and finishes with the Freestyle Relay. The individual events have main events where points are earned for the team (1st place-5 pts; 2nd-3 pts; 3rd-1 pt) and each place gets a ribbon. After the main event for each group, there will be heat races. The 6-and-unders do not swim the butterfly or the relays. Coaches decide which events the swimmers will swim and will post a list before the beginning of the meet. ● Tuesday nights starting at 6 and ending around 9. ● For home meets, arrive at 4:30 for warm-ups. ● For away meets, arrive at 5:00 for warm-ups. ● Please rest the afternoon of a meet and leave the pool by noon. ● Bring nutritious snacks & drinks and/or plan to purchase from concessions. ● Eat a high carb meal around 3pm. ● The meet schedule is located under the tab "Meets".
